End of Hiatus – I Have Slain Some Weak Demons

Hello, hello! I’ve missed everyone. My blog-reading pattern has been sporadic recently, but I’m looking to catch up on all your recent posts soon, and will start responding to tags hopefully by tomorrow.

Where I’ve Been

inuyasha weak demon entrance exam

Well…technically, mere finals are supposed to be even weaker demons than entrance exams, right? It appears I underestimated my enemies…

  • Exam #1: Stuck in a traffic jam for 2 hrs and very nearly missed the start of it. Became that obnoxious student who ate during the exam and couldn’t help but make lots of noise. Submitted without proofreading.
  • Exam #2: Studied for the wrong exam and went in without having finished three of the course readings. Read only about 10% of the scholarly articles… Submitted without proofreading.
  • Exam #3: Oh boy this youkai was tough. There were subjective fill-in-the-blank questions. Like, you ask me to name one unifying feature between Jane Eyre, Tess of the d’Urbervilles, and Hard Times, and there’s only one right answer? Actually proofread this though!
  • Exam #4: This was a take-home one and it was fine. 🙂

After submitting four term papers in the same week, I think I was a little too exhausted to care when it came to four finals in the very next week, so I just ended up trying to wing everything. I totally should have tried harder, but I don’t think I did as bad as I expected in all but Exam #3. Hey, perhaps I’m really getting better at timed writing! Final season always made me question why I went into arts instead of sciences, considering how much more I love memorizing things than improvising.

For anyone who’s considering summer courses, please do evaluate how much the course load is going to be, for your own good! It never occurred to me that taking four summer courses concurrently would be like taking eight courses in a regular term, and living 1.5 hrs away from school so doesn’t help! Not that I’m allowed to complain – Rose-senpai lives even farther away.

Aside from demon-slaying, I’ve been interning. I’ve been taking on a few new tasks. They involve the regular interviewing + article-writing, putting together a book, getting exposed to play-writing, and doing research on the benefits of walking in the forest. Yup, it’s a pretty enriching experience! I might have been slacking off somewhat for the last two weeks though… And if you’re wondering about the blogging community mini project I’ve been working on, I haven’t had much time to work on that one, but am getting to that soon! Feel free to add more responses to the Google doc any time you wish.

Technically…I did have Time for Blogging?

studying

Well…even though I’m technically supposed to be busy, I did finish a manga and start another (Liar Game, thanks to rossiroad‘s recommendation). And translate some lyrics. And get to that disturbing scene in Doki Doki Literature Club. And finish the summer event on FGO. And take long walks, fantasize while hugging my pillow, and sing so many songs to myself while I work that I accidentally forget that I’m trying to be productive.

So yes, I could have carried on with my weekly posts, but I didn’t, because I didn’t feel like adding another thing to my schedule. Besides, you lose a bit of your enthusiasm for writing when all you do is that for weeks straight and everything you write has to sound smart. Ah, I wish I didn’t try to do so many things at the same time.

But Anyways, I’m Back Now!

On the backlog:

  • Continue Toradora! collab with Primes
  • Finish up my Kalafina posts
  • Respond to the Write-A-Story tag
  • Respond to the Tanka tag
  • Do some amount of award posts
  • Feature a guest blogger?
  • Start a new collab series?

I’m dying to watch some Summer shows and to check out synopses of Fall shows, but I doubt I’d have the time, when there are so many more things I want to do. Yeah, I’m the type of person who just can’t settle on a reasonable amount of hobbies and wants to do everything during the summer, even though I only really have two weeks before school starts again.

Outside of Blogging To-Do List

Hey, might as well make one! You probably don’t care, but you get to read it anyways. To-do lists always make me so excited.

  • Go to cool places and try fun food.
  • Meet up with friends (^ Can be combined with above)
  • Get fit(ter) (Idk, I’ll do yoga or something. Swim? Sounds unconvincing…)
  • Go climb a tree.
  • Read two books. (The Kazuo Ishiguro book I bought from Rose?)
  • Bake blueberry-flavoured desserts.
  • Watch more movies.
  • Watch the Monogatari series. (Yes, Edgy, I’m finally getting to it)
  • Finish re-watching Shiki with mom.
  • Watch Game of Thrones with brother.
  • Be more consistent with keeping my dream journal.
  • Keep a diary in Chinese.

Oh, and I’m going to watch a play! It’s Macbeth, and I’m so thrilled. Better go and read that over too!

Think I can manage so many things in two weeks? I have doubts, but who cares. Anyways, bye now; I’m going to go work on my to-do list right away! And catch up on your blog posts sometime soon~

anime girl excited

Hmm…do I sound much more hyper than usual? I think I do… I just feel so happy and free…

  1. Macbeth! Haven’t read that in awhile, though I just added Taking of the Shrew to my to-do list. I watched 10 Things I Hate About You and got an English-majory urge to compare/contrast. Anywho, enjoy! Your lists look busy and fun.

    1. Ooh! I’ve read a graphic novel version of Taming of the Shrew, but not the actual thing. That sounds like a really exciting project though!
I hope the rest of your summer is as fun as I expect mine to be!

  2. First off, WELCOME BACK!!!! 😁 Glad to have you back!! 🙂
That #3 exam sounds like a nightmare! Glad you got through it somehow! 😮
I look forward to all your posts and I hope you get to have fun with that to do list! And you’re going to watch Macbeth! Enjoy it! That’s one of my favourite Shakespeare plays! 😊

    1. Thank you, Keiko! I’m really excited about Macbeth. The only live performance of a play that I’ve seen was a solo performance of King Lear, and that was so many years ago I barely remember it.
Super glad to be actively engaged in blogging and blog-reading again!

  3. Welcome back!! A subjective exam involving Jane Eyre sounds terrible, so sorry you had to deal with that.

Best of luck catching up on the blog!!

    1. And Hard Times…. I’ve had to do similar things in college with those, and neither are fun. But you did it! So congrats!

  4. Welcome back!!! Congrats on completing all those papers and exams. Now is the time to properly rest and enjoy the rest of your summer! 😎😎😎😎 I’m proud of you for taking so many summer courses and completing them. 👌

      1. Yep. I can only applaud its creativity…
And even though I still think it’s great, Nisemonogatari is probably my least favorite part outside of Tsukimonogatari. The competition is just too strong!

  5. Congrats on getting through exams. Looking forward to reading whatever you put out soon.

The one time I read Dickens willingly outside of comprehension excerpts was trying to challenge myself “to read more classics”, starting with A Christmas Carol. It was a real chore to get through…so needless to say, that failed pretty quickly (because it was before Bungou Stray Dogs got me reading that kind of stuff again).

    1. Thank you, Aria!
Dickens certainly has a style to get used to. Hard Times, at least, was a difficult work to get through. Overall, I want to say I enjoyed it, but the fact that I had limited time for it and was forced to skim made it a more challenging read than it should be. I admit to looking up Sparknotes summaries!

    1. Aww…thanks for the enthusiasm, Michel! You don’t know how glad I am to be back again too! I mean, I’ve still been reading posts, but I feel like I haven’t had the energy to interact as much as I normally would these days. But I’m back now! 😊

    1. Totally both productive and hectic!
And the fact that I’ve been given a fountain pen and a stack of…稿紙 (whatever the English word is XD) to write with makes diary-keeping even more exciting!

      1. Haha 稿纸, reminds me when I had to write compositions for my chinese module. These days everything goes electronic, just the thought of that makes it feel so authentic. 😛

  7. Welcome back, Moya! We’ve missed you! I didn’t realize you had quite so much going on this summer…! Anyway, Macbeth is one of Shakespeare’s best, no surprise there, so I hope you have a blast watching it. 😺 Looking forward to resuming our collab, too!

    1. Thanks for the patience, Primes! I’m glad to continue the collab too~
I was a bit too ambitious this summer because I realized that I could skip a year in my studies if I tried hard a little harder for one summer. So wow, now I’m a fourth year and I hardly know what to do about it!

    1. Oh the smoke’s definitely quite horrible. The sun’s constantly an ominous reddish orange…
Not as bad as last year though, so I’m not sure how it compares to where you live. It doesn’t smell like barbecue all day, and the sky is blue near the sea too.

      1. On average it’s not as bad as the past couple of years…. But we’ve had a couple of REALLY awful days. Wednesday I could barely see to the other end of the apartment complex. (200 meters?)

  8. WELCOME BACK!! Sounds like you had a busy time and you have a lot of plans for the future!!! I just got back from an unplanned hiatus of my own… So, I’m still trying to catch up a little!! Glad things are going well! 💖💖

  9. I have never been successful at slaying demons. OTOH I have been successful at making friends with them. They are easier to live with that way. You have more influence over a friend than an enemy.

    1. Hmm…in the context of demons being final exams, I’m not quite sure that we can be friends. XD Don’t get me wrong, I do like my classes (or at the very least, my readings). Hard to have fun with finals though.

      1. For me finals were never demons. They were annoyances. OTOH, I got very friendly with the SAT and ACT.

Most of my demons were inside of me.

    1. Not all of them. I got halfway through S7 and didn’t really have the motivation to finish… You know how people just keep dying, and it’s the hope for a gratifying conclusion that keeps you going? I keep hearing such disappointing things about the grand finale… Maybe I should get back to it sometime though!

      1. Yeah, it gets worse at the end, I would probably recommend skipping season 8 or at least the last few episodes if you do not want to ruin your Game Of Thrones experience, that last season or at least the final episodes ruined the franchise for many of us.

      2. At this point, I think it depends on whether I have someone to watch the show with. Otherwise, I’m probably more likely to continue putting it on hold indefinitely.
