A Dose of Positivity: Brotherhood + My Reasons Why Awards

Hello. It’s been a while since I’ve done an award post, and I still have an enormous backlog. But here we are again, with two very special awards in a row! Both of them seem to fall under the category of motivational post, so although I’m not particularly great at being motivational, you get to see me try!

Brotherhood of the World

The Brotherhood of the World Award, passed down to me by Cactus Matt, is one that’s been going around for the last few months. Great, I’m feeling like an alchemist.

Rules:brotherhood

  • Thank the Person who nominated you and link back to their blog.
  • Answer the questions sent to you.
  • Nominated around 10 bloggers.
  • Create your own set of questions for your nominees and display the rules.

1. Briefly describe your blogging style (Where is your favourite blogging spot/what is your favourite blogging tool).

In terms of writing style, I think my style is becoming more and more casual. You also see me fangirl more overtly compared to older posts.

Right now, I’m on an obligatory relative-visiting trip/vacation in Taiwan, and am typing this on my laptop at the edge of my bed in a nice little attic. This is probably how I like to work the most.

2. How do you manage your blogging and blog reading time?

Haha, that’s funny; do you see me managing my blogging time? Just how old is this award? I try to do episode reviews for seasonal anime because it helps me get regular content out. Otherwise, I don’t set schedules for myself because I want to keep blogging stress-free.

I try to read posts early in the morning, but with 400+ blogs I’m following, I find that my feed sometimes automatically skips posts within a certain time frame. I read most things (unless it contains spoilers for a show I’m interested in) and rarely miss an entire day of blog-reading, but I still end up missing a bunch of posts somehow.

3. Who is your most read author?

Shame on me – I’m a lit. student who hasn’t read that many books. To tell you a secret, high school was a phase when I just wasn’t motivated to read anything, and I only started reading again a month before university, when I decided to go for an English degree. Hmm…how I came to that decision is beyond me now. I do read now (somewhat omnivorously), but as of today, my most read authors would probably have to be Mary Pope Osborne, Erin Hunter, and Lemony Snicket, from my elementary school days. Unless it doesn’t have to be fiction?

4. How did you come up with your blogging name?

“Moyatori”? Derived from my blog, as you can see. “Moya” from “moya-moya,” and “tori” because it makes me feel like a fluffy lil’ bird. I get called “Mayo” quite a bit, which is fine because I do really like mayonnaise.

5. What keeps you blogging?

It’s fun, and the community is awesome! Where else do I get to discuss anime? I love looking for quotes when I write essays on novels, and that translates to finding the perfect screenshots for my episode reviews. Screenshots are actually a lot more challenging.

My Reasons Why

This very meaningful award was created by Kimchisama to celebrate 200 followers. I’m sure you all know Kimchi. She’s always sweet and supportive, and is often the first to like my posts when they come out. You people just get more and more thoughtful with milestone celebrations! Now I don’t even know what to do for my next one.

*Update: I also got nominated for the same award by Keiko and AstralGemini, so much thanks!!!

Rules:my reasons why

  • Mention the person who nominated you
  • List 13 reasons why you keep going/living (This is borrowed from the book but I’m taking it the opposite direction).
  • Nominate 10 or more people to give their reasons why.
  • Use the picture that I created in your post. I’m sorry that I’m a bit bad a making these things… But I tried 🙂

I’ve never been suicidal, but there have definitely been less-than-desirable times in my life. Despite not being an optimist, I do like to appreciate things. This list shouldn’t be hard!

1. This world has tasty food. The thing that gives me the surest sense of hope is the thought of a lightly toasted croissant in the morning, filled with whatever filling I like. Mayonnaise + pork floss, provolone + cranberry butter, homemade apricot jam, nutella + almond butter…honestly, talk to me if you want croissant flavour combo recommendations. One day, I will also make croissants from scratch!

2. Weekends. And holidays. I don’t hate going to school by any means, but weekends are always something to count on!

3. Obligations. I think I’m someone with a fairly strong sense of responsibility. I won’t allow myself to not keep going, because I have school to go to, jobs to find, an ongoing internship, and people to keep happy. And then there’s blogging, which isn’t really an obligation, but is something that requires a good extent of commitment to do well. I don’t like to be sloppy.

4. Singing in the shower. I love my weeb anime and J-pop songs! I used to save time for singing in the basement, but when I get busy and stressed, I limit singing to shower time. I’ve had really long hair up until now, so I get to have lengthy showers full of song on hair-washing days.

5. The shortness of life. I’ve lived for 20 years, and what have I achieved? What have I experienced? There are an infinite amount of career paths I have to forfeit and knowledge I will never be able gain, even if I live for 5 times my age right now. When even sleep is a waste of time (unless I dream cool dreams), there’s no way I can die anytime soon.

6. The fear of death. I currently identify as an agnostic, and there’s a pretty good chance I could end up in hell after I die. Or some purgatory-like space, or in another body after reincarnating. Most times, I can’t help but feel like I’ll just fade to nothing, and that option scares me the most. Even if there’s still something, and even if that something ends up in a good place, I cannot conceptualize how an “I” that’s not really me can still exist as something relevant. If I do suffer in this life, at least I would be able to own my suffering, and the thought makes me feel powerful. Is this flawed logic? I hope it makes some sense, but I do love it when people argue with me.

7. Not liking to lose. I used to be that kid who would throw a tantrum after losing a game of monopoly. Naturally, I’ve grown up to be someone who can’t bear the idea of losing at this game called life. Quitting life = proclaiming defeat. Not in a million years.

8. The prospect of love. If I expand on this, the Disney princess side I tried to kill might come out. Let’s just say that I have yet to kiss anyone (yes, I did come out of a breakup a while ago…it’s complicated).

9. Fantasizing. I’ve mentioned elsewhere that I have this way of coping with lemons in life where I think about upsetting things and concoct a highly self-indulgent tragedy. Pathetic, I know, but it’s actually a pretty constructive activity both in terms of getting my creative juice flowing and pulling myself together without ruining other people’s days. It’s moreso about reaching catharsis than self-victimization. Joyful events can inspire fantasies too, but only tragedies come out of them. I guess only tragedies entertain me (wow, that sounds…emo to an embarrassing extent).

10. My pillow Agyagya. Yes, my pillow has a name. It has several special pillowcases too, and I like it the most in moss green. When I fantasize, Agyagya is usually with me. On very rare occasions, Agyagya is also a punching bag.

11. Supportive people. In particular, my younger brother is someone I turn to the most when anything comes up. He judges me and says rude and cynical things, but that’s in a way what siblings are for. I also have several precious friends (both online and in real life) to whom I can discuss serious stuff with at any time without prior warning.

12. People to support. People intrigue me, despite the fact that I’m an introvert. I like to get to know them and try to wrap my mind around how they think, especially when they operate drastically differently from me or share uncanny similarities with me despite having different backgrounds. The dere-dere deep within me wants to do as much as she can for anybody lovely that she has a chance to bond with. I will almost always prioritize other people’s matters over my own if they choose to share things with me, and do, of course, love everyone who reads this blog very much!

13. My enormous to-do lists. Currently, I have an enormous backlog for this blog, long TBR and TBW lists, hobbies I’ve been dying to pick up, recipes I have yet to make, games to play, songs to learn, bakeries to visit, menus to try, people to meet up with, stories to write, classes to take, instruments to remember how to play, languages to learn, buttons to design, dresses to wear in summers too short, snow sculptures to make, a driver’s license to get…

I like half of my list consists of “why not to die,” haha. I would much prefer immortality. Gimme a swig of that immortal elixir!

Nominations

Thanks for bearing with the long post. If I nominate you, feel free to do either/both of the awards! Since I’m lazy (just like Cactus Matt and his predecessor), the questions in the Brotherhood Award will be reused.

    1. Haha, I’ve stopped actually writing out those lists, because I get stressed when I see less than half of the things done near the end of the summer, but they’re definitely still in my head!

  1. Own your own suffering…
I might be misinterpreting, but still-
    Respect!

Also your first reason is food! 👍
If the afterlife exists, they better have great food waiting for me! (Even if I’m a tasteless schmuck!)

    1. Owning your own suffering is an idea that’s kind of hard to expand on. I guess it’s the idea that you’re able to feel pain and…savour it as your own experience? That’s not really much help, and I won’t dare say that I’m capable of valuing pain all the time either. Oh well.
And of course my first reason is food! I also have tastes that are easily satisfied, and would stay forever loyal to whoever gives me free food.

  3. I remember that I used to have a special pillow then I think one day my mother made it disappear since it got pretty old lol. Thank you so much for the kind words and I’m so happy that I got to see this on my Monday morning before starting work. You are so right, there is so much more to do!

  4. Next time I read a blog, I hope that it won’t disappoint me as much as this particular one. After all, Yes, it was my choice to read, but I really believed you would probably have something useful to talk about. All I hear is a bunch of moaning about something you could fix if you weren’t too busy searching for attention.
