Stuff on My Shelf

I can’t really decide on which books, so I guess I’ll pull out random books from my shelf! Not that I own that many books – I mostly borrow from the library. The books I do own are mostly for school courses.

book cover 1

Fifteen Dogs by André Alexis

Greek gods have fun watching intelligent dogs die.

book cover 2

Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy

Happy families don’t have issues, but happy families aren’t real.

book cover 3

The Heart Goes Last by Margaret Atwood

A Midsummer Night’s Dream in a prison system that tries its best to create happiness during the depression (by manufacturing sex robots and prostituting chickens!).

book cover 4

Greek Myths II by Robert Graves

Zeus will have sex with anything that’s female.

book cover 5

The Republic by Plato

Greek dudes with too much free time construct imaginary kingdoms.

book cover 11

On the Origin of Species by Charles Darwin

Darwin: not trying to offend anyone here (God is behind everything), but *whispers* people came from animals.

***Beyond this point is the more obscure stuff in non-English languages.

book cover 6

Kogepan: Even Bread can have Encounters… by Miki Takahashi

Burnt Bread envies his more beautiful friends and gets drunk on milk all day.

book cover 7

Realistic Clay Desserts Dream Factory by Boutique-sha

Teeny tiny inedible food perfect for poisoning Arrietty.

book cover 8

Quality Japanese Cream Cheese Yougashi by Weida Huang

Cream cheese recipes for gigantic batches enough to make your whole family fat. (Ingredients are listed in kilograms)

book cover 12

Italianissimo 2 by Denise De Rome

I’m a linguaphile, okay? (Not sure why Italian, and not sure why pt. II. Do not question my impulse buys.)

book cover 13

Naruto: Rin/Hei no Hon by Masashi Kishimoto

Ah, the early Naruto days when everybody had reasonable powers.

book cover 9

I Wanted to Miss Someone Strongly by Mitsuyo Kadota and Sanai Masafumi

Atmospheric Japanese prose doesn’t really try to make a point.

book cover 10

The Girl in the Roof by Jiro Akagawa

The piano-playing neighbour happens to be a chainsaw murderer and a ghost. (I think that’s what it’s about anyways – I’m too scared to finish it)

Nominations

To continue the fun…

Only if you feel like it, obviously~

      1. It’s funny, because I’m currently in a Victorian Gothic lit. class that reads a lot of horrors. Shouldn’t have signed up without reading the course description…
Horror stories are tempting, but I get way too affected by them… Sleep loss is one sad result.

    1. Haha, The Handmaid’s Tale is wonderful in its own way, but I think it’s in her other works that her sense of humour really shines. The Heart Goes Last is not for everyone (I’ve known of people being offended too). Personally, I enjoyed the absurdity of it, but I wouldn’t say it’s her best work!

  1. Haha this looks fun! Thanks for the nomination. I love your descriptions, especially the ones for Greek Myths II and for Realistic Clay Desserts Dream Factory!

Oh gosh and I just noticed what you wrote at the very bottom of your blog (after the comments) XD that’s funny.

  2. That was really fun to read haha
I can’t agree more about Zeus! 😂😂😂 and your bang on with The Republic! Plato had way too much time on his hands!

  3. That moment when you see the book you bought 5 years ago, but never read because you’re not into science, in Moya’s blog

I don’t know any of these books, except Naruto and On the Origin of Species, but I really enjoyed your one liners! Thanks for the fun post!

    1. Oh, haha. I read On the Origin of Species for a class. Wouldn’t call it a page-turner, but it’s certainly interesting getting to read about Darwin’s perspective. Read a chunk or two of it if you feel like it – I don’t really feel like the entire work has to be read.
