3 Days, 3 Quotes: Ambition, not Optimism (Day 1)

So the lovely Angelica Destler tagged me for this mini challenge! There are tons of quotes I love, so I can’t believe I don’t remember any of them on the spot. I tried to go for anime then, considering that it’s the main focus of my blog, but good anime quotes are surprisingly hard to find in the sea of generically romantic or edgy quotes out there (you know, those that come with an image of a girl crying). Tell me if you know any!

Rules

• Thank the person who nominated you.

• Post a quote for 3 consecutive days (1 quote for each day, can be a super short post).

• Nominate three new bloggers each day.

Quote of the Day:

So, I was looking for anime quotes when I found today’s quote:

Everything is going to be fine in the end.
If it’s not fine, it’s not the end.

Daijoubu

This quote is often attributed to L from Death Note (though I can’t remember him actually saying it in the series), and many people recognize it to be from John Lennon. The quote has also been said to be from Oscar Wilde, Ed Sheeran and Paulo Coelho. Ughhh, this ambiguity makes me want to choose another quote. I guess it’s a somewhat clever quote, but it’s been around for a while and it’s also not something too difficult to think of. I’m not sure where I first heard it either, but I stuck to this one because it’s effective for me for certain reasons.

Now, I am no optimist. I must emphasize this, because I despise motivational quotes that contain empty promises. You can very much interpret this one the same way. John Lennon or Oscar Wilde or whoever you are: how dare you tell me that my life will be okay when you don’t even know who I am or how I live? This confidence has no foundation at all.

The quote works for me because it reminds me that I’m someone who needs things I care about to “be fine in the end”, and would be upset with myself otherwise. If it’s not fine yet, then it’s not an end that I can accept, and I will have to be the one to get myself to the end. It’s kind of like a battle declaration.

It might sound stressful, but for some reason, it works for me. Battle declarations like this tend to ignite some sort of passion and energy in me while making me feel collected at the same time, because I can picture the end already and understand that it must happen.

There, that’s one aspect of me that you might not have known before. Does this kind of quote ever work for you guys?

Now…tags of the day:

Obviously, you’re all really busy people and there’s no pressure to do this, but I’d be interested in your quotes! I try to keep track of the people I tag for every tag post, and I can’t believe I’ve never tagged you guys yet!!!

Bonus quote that’s actually from L:

L quote

Well said. I must try to use my head more…(*goes and eats some Lindor chocolates

  1. Well: I can honestly say that I like this quote. Some people tend to end things if it’s not going the way they hoped it would (this things not ending up fine in the end) but it sometimes takes sticking with it to eventually produce that all will be fine result in the end. Looking forward to which quotes you have in store for us in the upcoming two days 😊😊

  2. That L quote is so hilarious! But in all seriousness, I agree with your thoughts on optimism. There’s nothing wrong with hoping for the best, but one can’t deny things just so everything can be sunshine and rainbows. In the words of Miguel from the Spanish animated film Wrinkes, “You can either lie to yourself to feel better…or you can be a man and learn to face reality.” It’s a paraphrase and abridged version, but the message is still intact.

  3. Fantastic quote, Moyatori! And I agree; sometimes those motivational quotes are a bit too… I don’t know, unrealistic? I look forward to seeing the rest of your picks. 🙂

  4. This is such a cool idea!! I LOVE QUOTES. Yay, L from Death Note! I don’t remember him saying that either… I really like L’s quotes about monsters. I love anything to do with monsters, which is also why I like a lot of Tokyo Ghoul quotes. Most of the quotes I like are not optimistic though lol… Also, oo yes I don’t eat chocolate much but when I do it’s usually Lindor. ^^

    1. It’s a nice quote for sure. Like many people, I’ve only read The Alchemist since it’s the most readily accessible book by Paulo Coelho. Was mind-blown though, so I’m definitely looking forward to reading more works by him!
