So this is my first content post! Shinsekai Yori is an anime that has been one of my favorites for a while. Its gorgeous ending themes and OSTs hold a special place in my heart. I always regretted the lack of an OP theme in that show, but at the same time, no OP gives you more episode content, right?
Unlike the instant chills Kana Hanazawa’s sweetly sung Yuki ni Saku Hana (ED2) gave me, Wareta Ringo (ED1) was a song that slowly grew on me throughout the series. Sung by Saki’s voice actor, Risa Taneda, this song can easily be seen as Saki’s character song. Hence, I feel like the more you appreciate Saki’s character, the more you would come to like it. Well, that’s the case for me anyways. I’m sure there are lots of people with a good ear for music who loved the song since the very beginning. My affection for about half the anime music I listen to comes from loving something about the series itself.
So here is my ED-length version of the lyrics in English! I’ve made sure that the version I provide is singable, while still being pretty close to the original in meaning. I’d love to make a cover for this too, but I…kind of don’t know how to record.
割れたリンゴ(Wareta Ringo)/Broken-off Apple
A teary-eyed green apple
Press it to your heart, close and tight
The more it rolls (even if it hurts me)
The tougher it grows
Glaring at the sky with such stubborn eyes
Are you waiting dutifully
For fate to crush you, without defying?
A thousand winds (blowing, blasting)
Hurling at me (screeching, screaming)
Here I stay (almost breaking)
A single bubble (still believing)
Unforeseen (slowly rising)
A powerful storm (befalling)
Fight for your place (unrelenting)
Soap bubble (keeps existing)
The instant of its bursting
Sends rainbows flying
